Dean Cynthia Nance was recently honored for her outstanding work in the community and the state of Arkansas. The Arkansas Democratic Black Caucus presented her with the T.E. Patterson Education Award. This award is presented to an individual who fights for equality of educational opportunity for students and education employees of color, and for those who are poor.
T.E. Patterson was a champion for civil rights and served as the Executive Secretary of the Arkansas Teachers Association. He played an instrumental role in school integration, and this award is given each year to honor his contributions.
The award was presented at the annual King-Kennedy Dinner on February 12 in North Little Rock. Governor Mike Beebe was on hand to participate in the celebration, and the Arkansas Constitutional Officers each gave remarks of congratulations and appreciation.
