Law Professor Receives Appointment from Governor

November 3, 2009

Professor D'lorah Hughes

A University of Arkansas School of Law professor has received a special appointment from Governor Mike Beebe.  D’lorah Hughes, an assistant professor of law, was appointed as a member of the Arkansas Coalition for Juvenile Justice.

The Arkansas Coalition for Juvenile Justice exists as a part of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974, which brought the attention of the federal government to the maltreatment of youths within the juvenile justice system.  The coalition’s purpose is to assist government in improving juvenile justice and reducing juvenile delinquency.  It is comprised of people and groups from many walks of life, including law enforcement, schools, young people and other concerned citizens.

“I appreciate Professor Hughes’ willingness to serve the public, and I am counting on her wise counsel and advice,” wrote Beebe in the appointment letter to Hughes.  “I look forward to her help and involvement as we work toward building a better future for all Arkansans.”

Dean Cynthia Nance said, “Professor Hughes’ appointment is an excellent reflection on the School of Law.  We are proud that our faculty exemplify the service tradition of our land grant status, and Professor Hughes’ willingness to use her expertise and experience for the benefit of others is a perfect example of that.”
