Center for Science in the Public Interest

The Center for Science in the Public Interest is a national consumer organization that focuses on health and nutrition issues. CSPI offers internships for a small number of qualified students in undergraduate, graduate, law, and medical schools each summer and during the school year. Internship Projects for the Winter/Spring/Summer 2008 are as follows: Nutrition & Public Policy, Nutrition Action Healthletter, Alcohol & Public Policy, Grassroots Advocacy, Food Safety, Integrity in Science, and the Litigation Project. Human Rights Watch Internships on Prisons/Jails and Schools

The U.S. Program at Human Rights Watch seeks a legal intern to assist with research for reporting and advocacy on human rights violations against individuals in the United States. We are seeking to hire two interns; one will focus on prisons and jails, the other on corporal punishment in public schools.

Internships are generally unpaid, although work-study funds are available. Students are often able to arrange academic credit, as HRW internships offer direct exposure to the workings of an international human rights organization, close supervision by the HRW staff, interaction with other U.S. and international organizations and foreign and domestic government officials, and opportunities to attend lectures, trainings, and special events relating to human rights. Students should check with their individual academic institutions for requirements.

Qualifications: Applicants should be well-organized, self-motivated and reliable. Interest in human and civil rights is highly desirable. Current law students or recent graduates are especially encouraged to apply. Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Internet applications) are required. Summer internships are preferably full-time for a minimum of eight weeks, although some part-time arrangements may be possible.
