Other State Bar Exam Information
Many of our students take the bar exam in states other than Arkansas. The American Bar Association and the National Conference of Bar Examiners publishes a Comprehensive Guide to Bar Admission Requirements. You should be familiar with the Bar exam requirements for any state in which you plan to practice.
Uniform Bar Exam (UBE)
The Uniform Bar Examination (UBE) is a uniformly administered and scored bar examination. The UBE results in a portable score that can be used to apply for admission in other UBE jurisdictions. Jurisdictions that use the UBE may require applicants to also complete a jurisdiction-specific educational component and/or pass a test on jurisdiction-specific law in addition to passing the UBE.
The UBE jurisdictions (as of September 2015) are Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming.
Arkansas is not a UBE jurisdiction and does not require (or accept) the UBE.
For more information on the Uniform Bar Examination, please go to the National Conference of Bar Examiners’ website.
Other Important Bar Admission Information
In addition to a bar examination, there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every U.S. jurisdiction. Applicants are encouraged to determine the requirements for any jurisdiction in which they intend to seek admission by contacting the jurisdiction. Addresses for all relevant agencies are available through the National Conference of Bar Examiners.
