Susan received her bachelor's degree and a master's with honors in communication from the University of Northern Colorado. Prior to attending law school, she pursued doctoral studies in speech communication at the University of Illinois-Urbana and was later a faculty member in organizational communication at Purdue. After a stint as an organizational consultant, she received her J.D. from the University of Wyoming College of Law where she was editor-in-chief of the UW Law Review and graduated Order of the Coif in 1997. After graduating from law school, Susan clerked for the Honorable Wade Brorby, United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and then practiced for five years as a litigation associate with Arnold & Porter LLP. After a year as a solo practitioner, she joined Walmart in 2004 as an assistant general counsel managing commercial discovery.
