The Right Honorable Henry McLeish is the Hartman Hotz Visiting Professor in Law and the Liberal Arts, appointed jointly in the School of Law and the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, where he is a member of the European Studies program faculty. An expert on the European Union and the state, he was the minister of the Blair Cabinet in the UK most responsible for the process of the devolution of Scotland in the United Kingdom. He served as a member of the British Parliament, Member of the British Cabinet, Member of the Scottish Parliament, and was the second person to serve as the First Minister of Scotland. He retired from politics in 2001 but continues to serve as a member of the Privy Council of HRH Elizabeth II, as a member of the Scottish Broadcasting Commission and in other roles in Scotland, the United Kingdom, and the European Union.
Professor McLeish as taught at Cambridge University, Edinburgh University, and Heriot-Watt University in the UK, and in America at the United States Air Force Academy, the University of Oklahoma, and the University of Denver. He is the author or co-author of several books on Scotland and the Scots, including Scotland First: Truth and Consequences (2004), Global Scots: Voices from Afar(2006), Wherever the Saltire Flies, and Scotland: The Road Divides (with Tom Brown) (2007).
