Satoko Kato is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the J.D. program and in the LL.M. program in Agricultural and Food Law. Her courses in the J.D. program include International Business Transactions as part of the law school’s business law certificate program and upper-level writing in corporate transactional documents. Her courses in the LL.M. program include Federal Regulation of Food Labeling and Federal Regulation of Food Safety. She will also be advising the Journal of Food Law & Policy and the new LL.M. candidates.

Prior to joining the faculty, Satoko attended the LL.M. program at the University of Arkansas School of Law. During that time, she worked with the Food Law Firm as a graduate assistant and with The Sustainability Consortium and The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition as part of the LL.M. program’s practicum experiential learning opportunity.

Satoko has an extensive corporate law background, having practiced for almost 15 years at major international law firms in New York and Tokyo. She began her career working broadly on finance, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate law, and later focused on securities law representing domestic and foreign corporations in capital market transactions and reporting and compliance. She also has experience representing clients in antitrust investigations.

Satoko holds a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and an LL.B. from Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan.
