The Law Student Emergency Fund was established to assist University of Arkansas School of Law students who are experiencing a financial emergency due to unforeseen circumstances beyond their control which could hinder their ability to continue in school.

When I feel overwhelmed, I remind myself of the Anne Lamott story about a report on birds that her brother had to write. He was at the kitchen table close to tears, surrounded by binder paper and pencils and unopened books about birds, immobilized by the hugeness of the task ahead. Her father sat down beside him put his arm around her brother's shoulder, and said, "Bird by bird, buddy. Just take it bird by bird.”

Law school is not much different. Case by case, rule by rule. Just take it case by case, rule by rule.

I know these are difficult times for you and now you are having to adjust to a new way of learning. Please don’t get discouraged! I’m not physically with you to remind you of your strength. This you already know. Think back to your first year of law school when you thought about giving up, but you found a way to push. Well, I want you to continue to push through this. Nothing lasts forever and this too shall pass! I want you to keep the faith. We can continue to stay connected with a Zoom call because I love to see your face. Let’s continue to laugh, smile and lift each other up. You are the best grown kids a woman could ask for. I love and can’t wait to see you soon. Stay healthy, and like Nike, let’s do it!
