Financial Resources for DACA Students

College level students without citizenship or legal permanent status of the United States are not eligible for Federal Aid due to immigration status. However, there are a myriad of scholarships offered by multiple organizations. Listed below are only a selected few of these resources. Note: Be aware of the due date for scholarships.

Ready. Set. Grad. This website was recently launched and has information to help students who are undocumented with steps starting in 6th grade through college.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund Scholarships available to Hispanic students.

United We Dream Scholarships and funds for undocumented students.

America Dream Award Individuals granted deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA) encouraged to apply.

Mensa Foundation College Scholarship Program Scholarships offered by Mensa with no residency or citizenship required.

Mexican American Dream Scholarship Provides scholarships to outstanding students who are immigrants or of immigrant descent and pursuing higher education.

Writing Competitions

Students can win monetary prizes and a chance to be published through various writing competitions. Additional opportunities will be posted in MyLaw as available.

American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers (ACCFSL) Writing Competition

Deadline: Annually in December

Subject: A publishable book, article, or case note on any aspect of U.S. consumer financial services law.

  • First Place: $5,000
  • Second Place: $3,500
  • Third Place: $1,500

Entertainment Law Initiative (ELI) Writing Competition

Deadline: Annually in January

Subject: A paper identifying and researching a proposed solution on a compelling legal issue confronting the music industry.

  • First Place: $10,000 and two tickets to the 62nd Annual GRAMMY Awards (check website for additional prizes)
  • Two (2) Runners-Up: $2,500 each

American Indian Law Review Writing Competition

Deadline: Annually in February

Subject: A paper on any legal issue specifically concerning American Indians or other indigenous peoples.

  • First Place: $1,000 and publication by the American Indian Law Review
  • Second Place: $500
  • Third Place: $250

The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and American Bar Association Section of Labor and Employment Law Annual Law Student Writing Competition
